Description

Antique American triple silverplate figural napkin ring/holder c.1880 - horseshoe
Ring inside horseshoe on footed oval base on bun feet
"Bonjour"
James W. Tufts 1540
This is a lovely,
rare, antique
American figural napkin ring
c.1880, which has a large horseshoe enclosing the very intricate and detailed engraved napkin holder. The horseshoe sits at a 45 degree angle to the ring. It sits on an oval footed base. The detail in the engravings is just amazing - see all views in order to see all of the multiple engravings - even the horseshoe is engraved. I think it says
"Bonjour
" at the top of the horseshoe.
It is marked James W. Tufts, Boston 1540 - Boston - Warranted Triple Plate (see photo)
It is shown in the book by Gottschalk and Whitson, in plate 615 on page 252. They valued it at 0-0 in 1996.
This figural napkin ring is in
very nice condition
.
There is an engraving of an "M" and an "N" on the top. No cracks, repairs - just the normal wear and tear on a very old antique.
