Description

1956 532 Hearing-Impaired version of the Western Electric
Model 500 manufactured in June 1956.  As you may know, the 532 model used an amplifier built into the phone base with a rotary knob for adjusting the handset volume.  These phones were built for a few years until the amplified G-6 handset became available, and are not commonly found today.  This phone was found with many 1958/9 parts,
although
there is no indication on the base that it was refurbished by the phone company.  Perhaps repairs were made at the customer site by a phone repairman as all of the  added parts are closely-dated.
This phone is in extremely nice, restored condition, with a nice shine on the shell and Bakelite G-1 handset.  The phone has been carefully cleaned, serviced and polished.  The dial mechanism has been disassembled, cleaned and lightly lubricated.  It spins and returns smoothly.  The amplifier works very well, although there is some static as you rotate the knob. The phones dials out, rings and works very well on equipment compatible with rotary service.
Details
This phone retains all of the dated parts that were on it when I found it a few years ago.  Date codes and details are:
Base:  6/56 - the base is in very nice condition.
Network: 6-56
Ringer: 6-56
Dial: 7G-3 12-58  Note that this dial has an extra set of contacts related to the amplifier.
Handset: 2-59
U1 Earpiece: 2-18-59  Ear cap: 2-59
T1 Mouthpiece: 2-17-59  Mouth cap: 2-59
Shell: 2-12-59
Cord Strain Reliefs: Handset - 59 , Line - 58.  The cords are both in very nice pliable condition with no tears or damage.  The line cord is an extra long version and has a 4-prong 283B plug at the end.
Dial Card:  Original card (not a copy or repro) with the early-style dark background.
Flaws
This phone is very nice, but I did want to point out some minor flaws that I have noted:  The phone does have some light marks and scratches from years of use.  The dial bezel has a few minor marks as well.  The leather feet show some wear and one back foot has a small tear in the leather near the line cord entrance (pic 5).  The plastic rotary amplifier knob has a flaw or perhaps a tight crack in the lower right side (pic 2 and 3), however the knob is very secure on the shaft.  These flaws are all very minor in my opinion and do not detract at all from the really great display quality of this phone.
Summary
The phone works great, but it will dial out only if your local phone service supports rotary pulse dialing.  I assume the winning bidder will only display the phone safely on a shelf anyway.. ;)  The phone will be very carefully packed in a USPS large flat-rate box.   This 1956 Hearing-Impaired Model 532 would be a great addition to any phone collection, and is a must-have for the Western Electric enthusiast.
Thank you!
